The data collected in the time period February 2015 to May 2015 is partly derived from services such as Yahoo News, Yahoo Sports, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Movie, and the Yahoo home page.
Yahoo open to any user data? This is done with academic goals, namely machine learning technology research.
"Our goal is to encourage independent research in the field of machine learning and recommender system large scale, and industrial and academic research leveler," Yahoo wrote in a post on its official blog.
"This dataset is part of a data-sharing program Webscope Yahoo Labs, a reference library containing useful dataset for research, consisting of anonymous user data for non-commercial use," added Yahoo.
It should be underlined that the data user is given access by Yahoo is anonymous, alias does not include the identity of the user concerned. Nevertheless, the data Yahoo outlines fairly detailed information, such as demographics (age, gender, location), as well as the type of device used to access Yahoo services.
This kind of data is usually only available to those who are within the large corporations and difficult to obtain in the university academic circles.
